A woman has died and a pedestrian is fighting for life after separate crashes on South Australian roads.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Victor Harbor Road and Hindmarsh Tiers Road at Hindmarsh Valley at about 12:10pm this afternoon following reports of a crash involving a Ford Territory and a Subaru Forester.

The passenger of the Subaru, a 62-year-old woman from Queensland, died at the scene.

The driver and a second passenger were taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford suffered non-life-threatening injuries and a young child in the back of the car was uninjured.

A lengthy stretch of Victor Harbor Road was closed between Armstrong and Crows Nest roads.

Police have asked drivers to avoid the area.

The woman’s death is the 36th life lost on South Australian roads this year compared to 32 at the same time last year.
