A bomb squad evacuated a street this morning as police arrested five suspects, including a 16-year-old boy, on suspicion of right-wing terror offences.

Homeowners in Keighley, West Yorkshire, suffered a dramatic start to the day as they were ordered out of their properties by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

They arrested a 29-year-old man, a 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman in the town on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Anglesey, north Wales, and the teenage boy was arrested in Swindon, Wiltshire, on Saturday morning on suspicion of the same offence.

In connection with the investigation, two properties in Keighley are still being searched by officers.

One woman revealed she remains waiting out in the cold with no idea of when she will be able to return home.

The 27-year-old told Yorkshire Live she and her family, including her partner and his two children, heard a knock at the door and opened it to find police officers.

She said: ‘The police knocked on our door and told us we needed to evacuate.

‘They took our contact details but did not tell us what was going on. We still can’t go home so we are sat out in the cold just waiting to go back.’

A police statement added: ‘We recognise that local people may have concerns as a result of this activity.

‘We would like to reassure them that these arrests are pre-planned and intelligence-led and there is not believed to be any immediate risk to the local community.

‘We are grateful for the understanding, patience and support of local residents while these inquiries continue.’
