Desperate search for boy, 7, who went missing from remote home

Police have launched a desperate search for a seven-year-old boy who has gone missing from a remote Scottish home.

An urgent appeal was issued last night after Carson Shephard, 7, vanished from New Cumnock, East Ayrshire.

He was last seen in the Afton Bridgend area of the remote village – around 20 miles east of Ayr – at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

East Ayrshire Police took to social media last night to appeal for help in tracking down the youngster.

A police helicopter, marine and dog units, as well as fire and rescue teams, are helping with the search.

Locals, meanwhile, are being urged to check their gardens, garden sheds and their garages.

He was last known to be wearing dark blue jeans, a t-shirt and a black top.

In a statement posted on social media last night, East Ayrshire Police said: ‘Carson Shephard age 7. Missing from Afton Bridgend New Cumnock.

‘Urge public to check garden sheds, gardens, garages and not to assume someone else has done it – right now 2220hrs.’

Police later followed up with an extended statement, which said: ‘Carson was last seen in the Afton Bridgend area of the village at around 7.20pm on Sunday, 19 September, 2021.

‘Carson is around 3ft 6in tall, has short dark brown hair, and is of slim build. He was last known to be wearing dark blue jeans, a t-shirt and a black top.

‘Police Scotland, as well as partner agencies, have made use of a range of resources since Carson was reported missing, including the police helicopter, marine and dog units, and Scottish Fire & Rescue Service water support unit.

‘The local community has also been providing assistance to officers in the area.’

Anyone with information that may help assist police in their search can get in touch, quoting incident number 2021 0919- 3162. 

Locals meanwhile have been helping the search for missing Carson. One social media user involved in the search said on Facebook: ‘We have been looking all night! No new updates going home for a couple hours sleep and will be back up.’  

She added: ‘Have also spoken to a family member! Lovely people have some juice and crisps to the family member we were speaking to. Everyone please keep going out and helping as much as can.’

Another said: ‘This is so heartbreaking. So humbling to hear of the magnificent people in the area and all around who have all been out to help look for wee Carson.’
