China Ambassador’s comments: Beijing affirms ex-Soviet nations’ sovereignty after uproar

The EU’s three Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and summoned China’s envoys to account for remarks by Beijing’s ambassador in Paris that have set off a firestorm of controversy. On Friday, Ambassador Lu Shaye questioned the sovereignty of ex-Soviet nations which emerged after the fall of the Soviet Union. But Beijing is now walking back the comments.
