It’s the latest flare-up in the long-seething territorial conflict over the disputed waters. The Philippines is demanding that Beijing cease – what it describes as – ‘unlawful activities’ in the South China Sea. Manila has summoned the Chinese ambassador, after the coastguard fired a water cannon to block a Filipino supply boat – describing the manoeuvre as ‘excessive and offensive’.
