ASX set to slip; BlueScope profit up 78%

Summary

  • ASX futures are down 11 points or 0.2% to 6721, hinting that the market will extend Friday’s decline of 1.3%
  • Wall Street was flat at the end of the week, with the Dow Jones unmoved, S&P500 down 0.2% and Nasdaq up 0.1%
  • Oil prices have dropped 2% from recent highs. West Texas Intermediate crude as $US58.8 per barrel, Brent crude at $US62.66 per barrel. Iron ore slipped 0.9% to $US173.55 a tonne
  • BlueScope Steel reported a 78% boost in first-half profit to $330.3m and will keep its interim payout at a fully franked 6 cents
