An urgent warning has been issued to thousands of Melbourne residents after traces of Covid-19 were detected in sewage.

Anyone who has been in a certain 10 suburbs in the city’s southeast between April 4 and 6 is urged to get tested if they have any symptoms ‘no matter how mild’.  

Clayton, Clayton South, Dingley Village, Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave, Notting Hill, Springvale, Springvale South and Wheeler’s Hill have all been put on high alert.

‘Please get tested if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild, and stay home until you have your result,’ a Victorian Health alert issued on Thursday night said.

Common symptoms include fever, a cough, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, and loss of taste or smell.

‘Fragments of the virus detected in wastewater may be due to a person with Covid-19 being in the early active infectious phase or it could be because someone is continuing to shed the virus after the early infectious period.’

Victoria reported no new coronavirus cases on Thursday.
