A Targa Tasmania car has been involved in a serious crash on the Mount Arrowsmith stage on Tasmania’s west coast.

Police and emergency crews are on the scene of the single-vehicle crash on the Lyell Highway near Double Barrel Creek.

The crash occurred about 11:00am on the Mount Arrowsmith Stage, which is between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge.

Organisers are yet to identify those involved and the extent of injuries is not yet known.

Targa Tasmania organisers have confirmed there has been a “serious accident” and that police have closed the road and are in attendance.

Police have closed part of the Lyell Highway, near Double Barrel Creek, and have advised the highway will be blocked until further notice.

The crash is currently blocking the road for south-bound motorists, with police urging motorists to avoid the area.

A police press conference about the incident is due to be held this afternoon.
