Sydney records lowest number of cases in 13 days

What to watch next

New South Wales has recorded its lowest number of cases in almost two weeks but NSW Health says it is too early to tell if the curve is beginning to flatten.

The state recorded 1,127 new infections today, down from record high 1,599 cases reported on Saturday.

The rate of reproduction for the virus is sitting between 1 to 1.2 and at the beginning of the outbreak it was at 1.3, with a rate below 1 showing the virus beginning to taper out.

NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty said more monitoring would be needed to assess if cases numbers were decreasing.

Dr McAnulty also suggested the City of Sydney local government area may become a hotspot due to rising cases in Glebe, Redfern, and Waterloo.
