Man, 53, is arrested over murder of pensioner, 86, at home in London

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a pensioner suffered a fatal head injury at a home in north London.

The victim, a man believed to have been 86, was pronounced dead at the scene in Southgate as police launched a murder investigation.

Metropolitan Police officers were called at around 9.40pm on Saturday to a disturbance at a property in Chelmsford Road, Southgate.

They attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics and the man was found with a head injury, the Met said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

The Met said a 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

It is believed that the suspect and the pensioner were known to each other.

The police said the victim’s next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.

A crime scene remains in place and inquiries are ongoing.
