Train smashes into car apparently stuck on tracks in Queensland

A Queensland woman is lucky to be alive after her car became stuck on tracks and was hit by a train.

It’s believed the woman had attempted to drive around a boom gate in Brisbane’s south before her vehicle became trapped.

Confronting footage shows the car flying off the tracks as it’s hit by the train.

Nearby bystanders called emergency services to tend to the shaken woman.

“You knew something had happened … like a mini explosion I suppose,” Mr Trace said.

“I asked her if she was okay, she said she was and she could feel her legs and everything like that.

“She is very, very lucky.”

Paramedics inspected 70 passengers of the train for injuries after the collision.

The woman in the car remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Scott Riedel from Queensland Rail said the traffic control boom gates were working at the time, and he urged Queenslanders to take care at rail crossings.

It is unclear how the woman’s vehicle became stuck on the tracks.

“Queensland Rail is asking everyone at level crossings to have safety at front of mind.”
